La Pierre de la Folie – curated by alberto zanchetta

The project La Pierre de la Folie is based on the concept of converting energy into mass, and therefore into matter (and in turn artworks) which can be discerned by our senses. To state the obvious, matter is an entity which is capable of adapting to a form, but it is also an area of study on classifications:

1. Philosopher Aerolites
Putting the science fiction quality of inert matter to the test, the luminescent sponge by Luca Pozzi, the sculpture by Elisa Monaldi and the landscapes by Daniele Gunta seem to challenge the laws of gravity.
2. Alchemist Rocks
Manuele Cerutti, Fulvio Di Piazza and Juan Carlos Ceci present small paintings which correspond to three different phases of geological metamorphosis: a metallurgical pretext to illustrate the alchemy of painting.
3. Angular Stones
This little “homage to the cube” puts the critic in the spectator to the test, equating sampietrino to an ashtray by Munari, to the lacchetti blocks, the Fry post-it, editions by Schatz and to the brain teasers by Hein, Altekruse and Rubrik.
4. Stones of Comparison
Four artworks are presented using stones from the surrounding landscapes of Sass Muss; ridiculing the concept which pits “noble” against “vulgar” matter, the Dolomite stone present in all of the sculptures by Andrea Facco, Lucio Pozzi, Michael Noble and Andrea Salvatori.
5. Invisible: One of Many Possibilities of Matter
Several books and catalogues note the presence of “invisible” stones (the first is an immaginary stone documented by Paul Auster; the others are “omissions” which recall the artististic approach of Gino De Dominicis).
6. Adam Kadmon
The stones dispersed across the exhibition transform into a single circular stone with a centrepiece sculpture by Willy Verginer, a primaeval man, Golem born of the earth.
