“I legni umidi” (damp logs), Lab-workshop
January the 10th – Ethnographic museum “Al Pojat”, Zoppè di Cadore (BL)
from 11 AM to 4 PM
with Mario “il barelon” Tomè
curated by Dolomiti Contemporanee
The lab-workshop is open to the public, and free of charge
In December 2014, Mario “il Barelon” Tomè has worked with the ethnographic museum “Al Pojat” in Zoppè di Cadore, with the exhibit “I Bareloi”.
The project has begun with the restoration of an old scofa (hayloft) in the Agordo area, in which the artist has recovered, placing them in a contemporary context, some identitary, historic and cultural elements of his own land and history.
The carpentry methods and the traditional building techniques have been, thus, reclaimed, together with historic research: the result of that research has lead to the exhibit Pojat.
The experience of the “I Bareloi” is part of the Chiavi di Accesso project, designed and developed by the GAL Alto Bellunese (Local Action Group of the Upper Belluno Area).
Thus, its main objective is to propose an operative reflection, through the practices typical of the contemporary, both on the function of thematic Museums and on the theme of their real cultural accessibility.
Museums should be shared workshops of cultural socialization, interactive devices, activated all over the territory, able to set back into motion the deposited culture (objects and findings) each day, through activities of a relational kind.
Museums, then, aren’t – or shouldn’t be, anyway – passive containers, in which to preserve mute artifacts, but living places, able to move the human landscape,s both cultural and social.
This kind of reasoning has been perfectly understood and shared by the Magnifica Comunità di Cadore (Great Community of Cadore), that has taken part in Chiavi di Accesso and subscribed an agreement with the GAL for the deposit of the pieces realized in the context of the project.
With the collaboration of the Zoppè di Cadore Municipality, part of Mario Tomè‘s work is now being installed in the Pojat Museum thus becoming part of its collection, permanently.
The Museum, therefore, has stirred – moved.
And it is by following this idea of active, energizing, culture, still, that on January the 10th the lab-workshop is realized, again, at the “Al Pojat” in Zoppè.
The laboratory constitutes a workshop experience open to the public, during which the artist will guide the partecipants towards the understanding of his work, and the realization of one of its phases.
The workshop is open to people of all ages, and it is free of charge.
Both adults and children will take part in it.
A first, introductive phase, in which the meaning of the artistic work already accomplished by Tomè, will be followed by a second, operative one, in which the participants will construct an artistic installation inside the Museum.
The theme of this social piece, that is going to be designed and built by the group, will have water as its central theme.
Water, vital resource for humans.
Water, which belongs to the human territory, and nourishes it.
Water, so precious to us, in need of being cultivated, and that connects places and people, as it flows.
We will, thus, start from the fountain outside the Pojat, whose waters are going to be funnelled.
The wooden canal will make them flow, to take them elsewhere.
