opening “Upokeimenon”
Saturday 21 september opened at the new Venue of Casso Upokeimenon (underwater), a group exhibition in which 13 artist are proposing their reflections about water.
The exhibition will be open until next 03 november.
The New venue of Casso is the ex-elementary school of the town of Casso. The school closed in 1963 due to the distructive impact of the wave caused by the Vajont landslide, that damaged the building. After nearly half century and an intelligent restoration, the building opened again and it’s now managed permanently by Dolomiti Contemporanee. The main idea in this place is to bring new, vital and productive images through art. This place, still marked by the Vajont Tragedy is the perfect place to talk about anything except death.
This is in line with the dolomiti contemporanee’s cultural policy to re-activate sites with great potential, but unused.
Upokeimenon (underwater) is the last exhibition opened for the eventful season 2013. Many events happened, scattered in the Dolomites of Friuli Venezia Giulia, veneto, Trentino Alto Adige. And the New Venue of Casso was the headquarters of the Dolomiti Contemporanee project. here, from july onward, the visual arts lab in location was extremely lively. 60 artists from all over the world came here during the summer, hosted at the dc residence, set up in the local rectory. 4000 visitors at the exhibition Roccedimenti, held between july and august. A lot of attention generated by this project, new and strong, able to lead an interested and careful public to Casso, a place so delocalized and special, with huge potential.
Today we have a cultural contruction yard in Casso, an experimental lab, able to attract many artists and make them work together through the artist residence, in this extremely difficult but also stimulating location.
Many projects had started and many others are to come in the following months and years. A new seed, of vital action, has been planted in Casso. The plant is growing.
